<< I was sleeping out in the woods in a makeshift camp. In the middle of the night, I was startled by some really strange noises. This happened twice. I couldn’t tell how much time went by between them… The first time I woke up, it turned out there was a Goa party on the adjacent hill.
But the second time, it was something altogether different.
It was a primal sound.
Grunting in the bushes.
It turned out to be a wild boar! It was huge!
I was at her mercy.
No tent, no shotgun. I'm not the cowboy type. The only weapon I had was the coffee in my Bialetti pot.
It was pitch black.
I couldn’t see her, but I felt her coming closer.
I held my breath,
hoping she would leave.
She snorted again, indignant, as if to say “How dare you disturb me?”
She was so close I could hear her breathing.
Finally, when she saw me… “Oh, it's just you. Another lost soul.”
She turned around and walked away.
I could hear her footsteps slowly soften against the forest bed. My heart pounded away, stuck in my throat. >>

This album is my most personal so far and my most honest. Each animal portrayed represents not only an actual encounter I had, but really a human connection.
Letting go of some sort of civilizational filter, allowing a full range of emotions that make for a truly human connection on a primal level – this is what the Animal Heart stands for.

We recorded this album during the hottest days of 2020 in the middle of the pandemic year. The recording session felt like an explosion of all the pent-up energy that had amassed during the previous months.
Thank you Gregor, André, Dave and Lukas for pouring your energy into the music. You gave me something truly special.

Sissel Vera Pettersen also made a beautiful contribution to this project by singing her feature for the reprise of "I Saw a Lynx Once". Her incredible musicianship is obvious… Thank you, Sissel!
